William Francis Herbert, Jr. of Hemet, California passed away on July 22, 2021, at the age of 88. Born in Maryland, he lived there with his three brothers and three sisters until the family moved to Pomona, California in 1944.
He served in the Navy, and then worked at the General Dynamics Corporation for 36 years, an accomplishment and service to the country his family is proud of.
A skilled and dedicated hobbyist his whole life, William designed, built and flew model airplanes and gliders, and was always searching for his next project, one of which was restoring a Porsche sports car to showroom perfection.
In the second half of his life, William developed a close connection with the Church of Latter-day Saints, a connection that grew and sustained him for his remaining years and introduced him to his second wife, Katherine.
William was preceded in death by his wife Katherine, his brothers Donald Herbert and Eugene Herbert, and his sister Barbara Bales. He is survived by his brother Mitchell Herbert and sisters Patricia Pettigrew and Marian Coe, children Diane Moryosef, Karen Black, and Brian Herbert, and step-children Pamela Vislocky, Shellee Machado, Troy Hodson, Tony Hodson, Brent Hodson, and Nicole Tannler, and dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be laid to rest next to Katherine at the Logan Cemetery on Tuesday, August 3rd at 11:00 am.
