Our courageous and loving Patriarch was called back home April 19, 2015, surrounded by his wife and daughters, and close friends.
Born in a boxcar, November 7, 1936, in Silsbee, Texas, to Reba Althalee Hargraves and Albert Mason Moore, he was the oldest of 4 children.
He was raised in Deer Park, Texas and graduated from Deer Park High School. He studied accounting and computer science while attending Utah State University.
From an early age he had a great affinity for cars, airplanes, motorcycles, and guns. As a young man he had a passion for his first car, a special ordered red and white 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 hardtop convertible. One of his favorite activities at that time was racing against his brother, Jack, who had an identical car in blue. They got really good at outrunning the local police.
His employment career included Brown and Root Airport, Thiokol Chemical Corp, NASA Space Center, Utah State University Computer Center and worked as a Purchasing agent at the time of his retirement.
Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he held various positions throughout his life and touched the lives of many people. He was a High Priest at the time of his passing.
Over his life Dad participated in various hobbies and activities including: playing the piano, guitar, and banjo, singing, woodwork, genealogy, yard work with his wife, growing tomatoes, gardening, temple work, caring for and detailing his automobiles, visiting with friends and neighbors and telling great stories.
One of the stories Dad loved telling, up to the end, was a time in his young married life when his stake president gave him the assignment to pick up and transport a visiting apostle. He was very nervous to have such a prestigious person in his car but was so relieved he had kept his car clean. From that day on his cars were always kept spotless and immaculately detailed. This apostle later became known as the 12th president of the church, President Spencer W. Kimball.
He married Conchita Cronin in the Manti Utah Temple in 1958. They had 7 daughters and settled in Millville, Utah. He was always very active in politics on a county and state level and was a member of the Millville Town Council and Irrigation Committee. He was a state delegate many times in the Republican Party and enjoyed working at polling stations in his later years.
In April of 1999 Dad married Barbara Rose in the Logan Utah Temple. They could be seen on daily morning walks in the mall and lunch at Wendy’s where they gained many friends in the community. From this union he gained two more daughters and a son.
Dad established a strong friendship with Sam Peery over the years. Together they made many memories while target shooting, spending time in the mountains and working on Eagle Scout projects, just to name a few. They spent many hours taking friends on adventures in the canyon and going on outings. These were some of the highlights of his later years and he spoke of them often with fondness.
Dad is survived by his loving wife; his daughters, Lavona (Wendell) Howell, Patterson, California; Gina (Dan) Truman, Providence, Utah; Benita Moore, New York; Selina (Brian) Nuzum, Fontana, California; Tonya Moore, Burbank, California; Sheila Moore, Logan, Utah; Willa (Mike) Gebhard, Logan, Utah; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Raymond (Marilyn) Moore, Liberty, Texas; sister, Margaret (Bobby Jack) McAteer, Pasadena, Texas; sister-in-law, DeeAnn Moore, Helotes, Texas.
Also survived by step-children, Todd (Melody) Lindquist, Redmond, Oregon; Debara (Russ) Ragsdale, Sandy, Utah; Nancee (Dan) Pyper, Houston, Texas; 11 step-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren.
He is now celebrating his happy reunion with his father, mother, and brother, Thomas Edward Moore, who preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 25 at the Logan 15th Ward, 100 West 600 North in Logan.
