William Leon Riggs 1929-2010
WELLSVILLE - Our father, Grandpa, and friend passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on April 14, 2010.
Bill was born Feb. 11, 1929. He grew up in Wellsville, the oldest son of William P. and Ruby B. Riggs. Bill graduated from South Cache High. He then married Ruby Pearson and together they had three children. Later Bill, Ruby and their family were sealed for all time and eternity in the LDS Temple. They resided in River Heights for the first 32 years of marriage. In 1986, the couple moved to Wellsville, where they currently reside.
Bill worked at Defense Depot in Ogden for 39 1/2 years. Bill had a love of working on cars, staying busy on the farm, as well as serving his country in the Army.
Bill and his family made many memories hunting, fishing, and camping. Some of their fondest memories include yearly camping trips to Yellowstone, fishing up Little Beaver, hunting up High Creek, and deep sea fishing in West Point, Wash.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of 59 years; his three children, Dennis (Beth) Riggs, Carol (Steve) Hawkes, and Steven Riggs; his 10 grandchildren, Jenny (Matt) Bott, Josh (Nicole) Riggs, Emi (Scott) Hellwedge, Trisha (Josh) Jones, Stacey Moss, Nicole (Carson) Felkel, Paul Riggs, Ally Riggs, Shayna (Brady) Larson; seven great-grandchildren, Haylee Jones, Caden Bott, Jaycie Atkinson, Branson Jones, Dylan Atkinson, Steven Atkinson, Liam Felkel, and baby Hellwedge on the way; his two siblings, Deanna (Richard) Horsely, Glenn (Gale) Riggs; and his two furry friends, Dolly and Tippy.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. in the Allen-Hall Mortuary. There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary, and on Saturday from 1 to 1:45 pm. Interment will be in the Wellsville Cemetery with Military Honors. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at
