Logan, Utah – Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, William Evan McMurdie, Jr., 84, passed away suddenly of a heart attack, August 28, 2007.
He was born October 20, 1922 in Logan, Utah, to William Evan and Geneva Wadsworth McMurdie. Bill married Maxine Curtis in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 2, 1947.
Bill graduated from Logan High School and Utah State University. He loved sports and was a life-long fan of USU sports. He served in the Pacific as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Later in his life he worked for several radio stations in the Cache Valley area as an announcer and sports broadcaster, and he worked for over forty years for Logan City reading the electric meters. Bill loved his family, his garden and had many friends. Music was a big part of Bill’s life. He sang with the Imperial Glee Club and the Towne Singers, two exceptional Cache Valley groups, for over twenty years.
Survived by his wife, Maxine Curtis McMurdie and five children, Rachel Ann Lawyer (Brent), Marilyn McMurdie, William Douglas McMurdie (Candis), James Neil McMurdie (Tamara), and Randall Curtis McMurdie (Leisa) as well as seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bill has two surviving sisters Kay Louise Tilley (Keith) and Diane Wilson (Robert B.). He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Renee McMurdie, a brother Maughan W. McMurdie, a sister-in-law Dorothy J. McMurdie, and Brittney McMurdie a granddaughter.
Friends may call Friday night, August 31, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan. Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary with a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Internment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
