William Earl Owen

March 3, 1947 — September 10, 2005

William Earl “Bill” Owen, 58, passed away on September
10, 2005 at his home in Logan, Utah of diffuse
interstitial pulmonary fibrosis.
Bill was born on March 3rd, 1947 in Logan, Utah to
LaRene Dahle and William Bolton Owen. He grew up in
Clarkston and graduated from Sky View High School in
1965, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Day Saints. He married Susan Irene Maughan
on October 29th 1967 in Elko, Nevada. They were
blessed with one son, William Shad.
Bill and Susan settled in Salt Lake City where Bill
worked as a lineman for the Mountain States Telephone
and Telegraph Company. He worked his way up to the
position of engineer, and in 1979 Mountain Bell moved
him to Logan where he continued in the same position.
Bill retired from US West in 1998 with 31 years of
service, and did consulting work for Qwest
Communications until his health forced him to fully
retire in May 2004.
Bill was elected to the Clarkston town council and
served one term from January 1989 to December 1992. He
was awarded Clarkston’s outstanding citizen award in
1993 and in 2004. Bill also served on the Cache County
Citizens Advisory Committee for siting a new landfill.
Bill had a great respect for education and in 1989 he
started attending night school at Utah State
University. In 1997 he graduated with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Business Administration. Bill loved to fish
and spent many days in his float tube in the
reservoirs of Idaho and at Clark Canyon Dam in
Montana. Bill also loved to hunt deer on his horse
“Killer” in the mountains above Clarkston. He loved to
golf and especially enjoyed playing Birch Creek Golf
Course in Smithfield.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Susan of Logan,
Utah and his son Shad of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is
also survived by his brother John Farris (Arlene)
LaMont of West Valley City; and sisters Linda (Bill)
Murdaugh of Cary, North Carolina; Lorna Weston of
Laketown; and Lana Jardine of American Fork. Bill had
many friends and will be missed by all who were
privileged to know him.
Funeral services will be held at Allen Hall Mortuary
on Wednesday, September 14, 12:00, noon. There will be
a visitation for friends and family at the Allen Hall
Mortuary, 34 East Center St., Logan from 6:00 to 8:00
PM on Tuesday, September 13. There will be a
visitation for friends and family prior to the funeral
from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Internment at Clarkston
Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family by
