William Golden Coley

January 22, 1924 — September 30, 2009

Hyrum, Utah: William Golden Coley, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in the early afternoon on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. He was with his family at his home in Hyrum.
Goldie was born in Richmond, Utah on January 22, 1924 to Martha (Christiansen) and Herbert Coley.
In Late 1943, he joined the Marines and served in the Pacific Theater under the 4th Marine Division. He was an Iwo-Jima survivor who was deployed on the island from February 19th until March 20th of 1945.
Upon returning to the states, he was married to Shirley Mae Hall on March 15, 1946 after a three week whirlwind romance. They marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Shirley, and their five children: Shirley Kathleen Milligan, Joy Ann (Randy) Erickson, David Lynn (Lara) Coley, Janice (Bryon) Bingham, Mary Pamela (Rick) Epperson, as well as his 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson and a great-grandson.
He was and avid hunter and fisherman with a love of the outdoors. He passed this on to his children and grandchildren through a lifetime of camping and fishing trips. He also enjoyed going to Wendover where he won many Keno tournaments. He retired from Schrieber Foods after 18 years.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 5, 2009 in the Hyrum 5th Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary and prior to services on Monday from 11:30 Am to 12:30 PM at the church. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
