William L. Richman

September 14, 1923 — January 5, 2011

William Lowell Richman, 87, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather returned to his heavenly home while surrounded by his family on January 5, 2011. He was born in Paradise, Utah on September 14, 1923 to William Sinfield Richman and Elizabeth Norris Richman.
Lowell served his country in the United States Army, 8th Air Force during WWII. After basic training, he spent two years in war enraged England. He returned to good American soil and while on furlough married Mildred Poppleton Stuart in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of four children: Cheryl (Sam) Hilton Weston Id, Kaylene Bolton, Jan (Lonnie) Hall, Larry (Marla) Richman, Wellsville.
In 1945 Lowell moved to the city of Wellsville and shortly after opened Wellsville Auto Service.
He was elected to Wellsville City Council and served for eight years. He spent many hours at the cemetery cleaning up, and preparing for Memorial Day. Lowell was the Wellsville Justice of the Peace for four years.
In 1965 Lowell was chairman of the Labor Day celebration. Of course Lowell has been a part of this celebration since 1950 when he started waking the town with the sound of the “cannon”. Our Founder’s Day wouldn’t have been the same without this expected wake up call.
Many will remember him running the projectors at the Wellsville Theater for over twenty years.
He served as one of the directors of the Wild Life Federation for three years.
Lowell was a charter member of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department and was the fire chief in 1965. Lowell passed away being a life long member of the Utah Firefighters Association.
He received Wellsville’s “Outstanding Citizen” award in 1989.
Lowell started driving school bus in 1970 and earned the respect and friendship of many young people. He drove for Cache County School District for 30+ years.
After retiring as a bus driver, Lowell worked for Miller Brothers Express as a security guard for a number of years giving it up to care for his loving wife, Mildred.
Throughout the years he was busy serving in many positions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked in the Sunday School Presidency, The Elders Quorum Presidency and in the High Priest Presidency. Many years were spent serving on the Old Folks Committee.
Lowell accompanied the Scouts to Yellowstone Lake many different years. Taking his boat, he pulled them in their canoes to one of the arms of the lake where they camp for four or five days.
Dad always enjoyed taking pictures of everything, and as busy as he was, always made time for his family. He loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was an avid sportsman and the family has enjoyed all kinds of outdoor recreation. He has made boating, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and camping a parts of our lives. He taught us to work hard and do the job right the first time. Dad was preceded in death by his loving wife Mildred Stuart Richman, his parents Elizabeth Norris and William Sinfield Richman, his brothers Ellis and DeWayne Richman, his sisters Phoebe Jones and Leanore Mendelkow. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Jan. 10, 2011 at noon in the Wellsville 4th Ward Church, 195 South Center Street, Wellsville, Utah. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, Jan. 9th at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St. in Logan, and from 10 to 11:30 am prior to services on Monday at the church.
