Wilma June Jones Hall

Hyrum

Wilma was born on 27 September 1927 in Wellsville, UT, the first of four children born to Parley Gunnell and Belva Jones Hall. She has two brothers (Edward(Ted) and Francis, and one sister Eva.

She attended school at the Floradell and Wellsville Jr. High School and graduated from South Cache High in Hyrum. She then graduated from Utah State Agricultural College with a degree in Secondary Science and later earned a master’s degree in business education from Utah State University. She taught one year at the Malad Idaho High School before teaching at South Cache High School in Hyrum, Utah, Sky View High School in Smithfield and retired from teaching at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum. She enjoyed teaching and being remembered by her former students.

Wilma has been a teacher in Sunday School and Young Women’s organizations and was a member of the Hyrum Stake and Logan Stake Sunday School and Young Women’s Boards. She was President of both the Hyrum and Logan Stake Young Women’s organizations and served an honorable LDS mission in Hawaii.

She was a member of the Wellsville Literary Club and the Peter Maughn Camp of the daughters of Utah Pioneers. Her hobbies included reading, bowling, traveling and photography. She has shown her slides at Founder’s Day Sunday night meetings, civic clubs and family socials. Wilma has traveled to all 50 states, the South Pacific, and Europe where she enjoyed her hobby of taking pictures.

Wilma was an active in preserving Wellsville history and was the co-author of “Windows of Wellsville.” She was honored as an Outstanding Citizen in 1982, and in 2003 was the first woman Marshall of the Day, for Founders’ Day in 2006. She was a member of the Wellsville Historical Committee, was proud of her pioneer ancestry, and loved living in Wellsville.

Wilma was proceeded in death by her parents, two brothers Edward (Ted), Francis J. Hall and sister Eva (Mark) Smith.

She is survived by her sister in laws Ruth Hall, JoAnn Hall, along with 6 nieces and 6 nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Arlene and Margert along with the staff at Blacksmith Fork Assisted Living Center for their care and compassion.

Viewings will be held Friday August 23rd from 6:00 – 8:00pm and Saturday August 24th from 9:00 – 10:00 am at the Wellsville 7th ward church.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00am at the Wellsville Cemetery.
