Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend Zoe Lee Maughan Nielsen, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 8, 2016, in her home in Logan, Utah.
Zoe was born January 11, 1933 in Price, Utah, to Rulon Baxter Maughan and Geneva Lee. She attended Wellsville Elementary School and graduated from South Cache High School in 1951.
On July 31, 1952, she married Darwin Blaine Nielsen in the Logan LDS Temple and raised four sons: Darwin Layne, Scott Maughan, Kent Blaine and James Robert Nielsen.
Zoe was a faithful member of the LDS Church where she served in many different capacities in the Logan 7th Ward including visiting teacher, Relief Society President, “Ward Grandma” in the nursery, various Young Women’s callings and many years at the Family History Library. She had an unwavering testimony of the gospel and the Savior, which was most evident in her tireless dedication to her family and friends. She faithfully attended the Logan LDS Temple every Wednesday.
Zoe was an active member of the William B. Preston Company of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Zoe and Dar lived most of their lives in Cache Valley, and were in their home in Logan for nearly 50 years. They also lived in Sacramento, CA; Albuquerque, NM; Corvallis, OR and Bozeman, MT.
Zoe was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin, her parents and her daughter-in-law, Paula Reese Nielsen. She is survived by her four sons Layne (Jeanna), Logan, Utah; Scott (Cindy), Hyrum, Utah; Kent (Lori) Providence, Utah and Jim (Audra) Victor, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Frances Lee Gooley, Rulon Boyd Maughan and Peter Kent Maughan.
The family would like to thank her loving neighbors, friends and family. We would also like to thank Dr. Stones and his staff for years of loving care and service.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM on Monday, June 13, 2016 in the Logan 7th Ward Chapel, 565 E. 100 South, in Logan. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 5 to 7 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street in Logan, and prior to services at the church Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
