Zona Chugg Balls (1926 – 2010)
BENSON, UT – Zona Chugg Balls, 83, died on Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Pleasant View, UT at the home of her daughter.
She was born on August 16, 1926, in Logan, UT and was the youngest of 4 children born to Nathaniel B. and Hazel S. Chugg. She was married to DeVar Gittens Balls on September 12, 1944 in the Salt Lake City Temple. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many church positions. She enjoyed serving as the compassionate service coordinator, as she enjoyed helping other people. But the callings she enjoyed the most were those that let her work with the youth. She loved to teach the youth and young adults to water ski. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting as well as gardening. She took much pride in her flower gardens and was known for her zinnias. She was also known for her salads, especially her shrimp and macaroni salad. She was very dedicated and loyal in remembering and decorating the graves of loved ones. Zona loved her family and she loved to spoil them with mountains of presents every year at Christmas. Shortly after the passing of her husband, DeVar, in 1971, she began working at Logan Optical, where she spent many years. Zona was a member of the Benson Ladies Club where she formed many lifelong friendships.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, DeVar, parents, one brother and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter and two sons. Marilyn Briggs, Pleasant View, UT; David D. Balls, Ogden, UT; and Craig W. Balls (Jodene), River Heights, UT. As well as 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at noon at the Benson First Ward Chapel. Viewings will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010, from 6 to 8 PM at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 420 E. 1800 N. in North Logan, UT and on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 prior to services at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
